How to Configure the Location Feed
Learn how to set up the Location Feed in DigitalStakeout to monitor geo-tagged and geo-inferred social content within defined geofences.
How to Configure the Location Feed
The Location Feed enables monitoring of geo-tagged and geo-inferred content using customizable geofences. It’s ideal for event monitoring, site security, crisis management, and operational risk intelligence.
Use Cases
- 🚨 Incident Response — Track real-time posts from crisis zones or emergency sites
- 🛡️ Event Security — Monitor protests, large gatherings, or high-risk locations
- 🧭 Travel Risk — Observe social chatter near executive movements or critical assets
- 📍 Geo-Targeted Awareness — Stay updated on discourse tied to strategic locations
Creating a Location Feed (Geo Monitor)
1. General Setup
Field | Description |
---|---|
Status | Enable or disable the feed |
Monitor Name | Assign a clear, descriptive name |
Expires On | Set optional expiration date for auto-deactivation |
Use Case | Choose operational intent (e.g., Crisis Management, Travel Security) |
Tags | Add labels for topic, region, or function |
Send Data To | Choose a target folder, feed, or alert pipeline |
2. Define the Geofence
Use the map drawing tool to set your target zone:
- Draw a circle or polygon to define your monitored area
- Optionally, perform a reverse address lookup for accuracy
- You can define multiple location monitors for different sites or regions
Monitoring Workflow
Once activated, the feed will return content that:
- Is geo-tagged within your defined area
- Is inferred to have originated from the target zone (based on context)
- Includes metadata such as time, keywords, language, and platform source
Best Practices
- 🔄 Reassess regularly — Update geofence areas based on deployments, events, or threat shifts
- 🧠 Review hits daily — Watch for pattern changes or anomalous spikes
- 🗺️ Layer with feeds — Combine with Keyword Feed or Profile Tracker for deeper context
- 🚧 Avoid noise zones — Use Boolean filters or co-keywords to reduce irrelevant hits in crowded urban centers
Example Scenarios
- Monitor a 1-mile radius around a hotel during a high-risk executive visit
- Track chatter near a stadium before, during, and after an event
- Detect early indicators of crowd activity near a consulate or critical facility
- Watch for local sentiment shifts following a public incident or protest
