Organizing Data in Scout

How to efficiently manage and categorize your monitors

Overview

Organizing data effectively is important in DigitalStakeout Scout. This guide explains how to efficiently manage and categorize sources and results using folders and Context tags, offering a structured approach to data management within the platform.

Organizing Sources and Results

Folder System in Scout

DigitalStakeout Scout provides a “file system”-like structure for organizing sources and collected data into folders. This setup follows a typical parent/child relationship, offering an intuitive way to manage data:

  • Account Level Folder: Selecting this folder searches all data from every monitor in the account.

    • Folder 1: Selecting this searches all monitor data inside Folder 1.

    • Folder 2: Selecting this searches all monitor data inside Folder 2.

Interaction of Workflow & Alerting with Folders

  • Account Level Folder: Creating a rule at this level processes against all data from every monitor in the account.

    • Folder 1: Rules created here process all monitor data inside Folder 1.

    • Folder 2: Rules created here process all monitor data inside Folder 2.

Creating an Organizing Folder

  • Navigate to Manage Monitors: Access this screen from your account dashboard.

  • Creating a Folder:

    • Right-click on your account folder or an existing folder to create a new folder.

    • Select 'NEW FOLDER', provide a name, and save.

  • Organizing Monitors:

    • Drag existing Monitors into folders to categorize your data.

    • Clicking on a Folder in the Setup page allows you to add a Monitor, saving results in that specific folder.

Utilizing Context Tags

In addition to folders, Scout offers the option to group sources using "Context" tags. This feature allows for tagging monitors for specific purposes or use cases without concern for their placement in the organizational tree.

  • Tagging Monitors: Assign Context tags to various monitors based on their purpose or use case.

  • Data Segregation: Monitors with the same Context tags can be grouped together, regardless of their position in the folder structure.

  • Flexible Organization: This system provides flexibility in organizing and accessing sources based on contextual relevance rather than strict hierarchical placement.

Conclusion

Effective data organization in DigitalStakeout Scout enhances your ability to monitor, analyze, and respond to online threats efficiently. By using folders and Context tags, you can create a structured yet flexible system for managing your digitalstakeout activities.
